Plumber in Angus, ON

Angus at a glance

Angus is the largest community in Essa Township, west and south of Barrie, and the main access to Canadian Forces Base Borden. Essa had 22,970 people in 2021, living in 7,949 of its 8,232 private dwellings, up 9% from 2016.

What that means for your plumbing

With a military base next door, many homes in Angus change hands or tenants often. A move is the right time to find the main shut-off, check the water heater's age and test the sump pump, so a surprise doesn't land on the new household. See burst pipe: first steps.

Farm country

Essa is well known for potato farming, and rural properties around Angus often have wells, septic systems and outbuildings with their own water lines. Lines to barns and shops should have their own shut-off so they can be drained for winter.

Named for Angus Morrison

Angus takes its name from Angus Morrison, a former member of the Legislative Assembly for Simcoe North. Essa Township was incorporated on January 1, 1850, and in 1991 it merged with the Police Village of Thornton to form today's township. Besides Angus, it includes Thornton, Baxter and hamlets such as Cedargrove, Colwell, Egbert, Ivy and Utopia. CFB Borden brings a strong military presence and a high number of francophone families to the area. In a town where people come and go, the next owner will thank you for leaving a note of where the shut-offs are.
